The Best Dr. Squatch Alternatives for Soap and Deodorant in 2024

It seems as if you can’t escape those Dr. Squatch ads on social media - they’re everywhere

We are all for people switching to a more natural grooming regimen and ditching traditional shower gels and antiperspirants, but the truth is, Dr. Squatch may not be quite as natural as meets the eye. The brand’s products are pretty expensive, too.

The good news? We’ve created this list of Dr. Squatch alternatives to help you upgrade your soap and deodorant without breaking the bank. There are plenty of great alternatives to Dr. Squatch whether you’re looking for natural deodorant for men, natural soap for men, or both.

But, the best alternative is a few clicks away at The Black Stuff. Even though our brand has grown beyond our wildest dreams, we still do things the old-fashioned way - handcrafting our products in small batches using only the finest natural ingredients available. Try them today!

Why More Men Are Looking for Alternatives to Dr. Squatch

We want to give credit where it’s due - Dr. Squatch has done an amazing job building a company from humble beginnings, with a story that mirrors our own here at The Black Stuff.

Founder Jack Haldrup started his journey handcrafting natural soap in his garage. Fast forward to the present day and you’d be hard-pressed to find a guy that hasn’t come across an advertisement from this brand on social media.

The brand seemed to explode in popularity out of nowhere, now having served millions of happy customers. So what are the different products they’re most well-known for, and why are people seeking Dr. Squatch alternatives?

What Grooming Products Does Dr. Squatch Make?

What started with just soaps has quickly evolved into a full-fledged men’s grooming brand. Today, Dr. Squatch produces everything from soaps and deodorants to shampoos, conditioners, lip balm, cologne, face wash, toothpaste, beard oil, lotion, shaving products, and more!

You can even find accessories ranging from shower bags to apparel. Across the entire catalogue, though, the company makes an effort to use only natural ingredients, claiming to be 98-100% natural - free from sketchy ingredients associated with traditional grooming products.

In theory, Dr. Squatch could be your one-stop shop for all your grooming needs! But most men rely on just their soaps and deodorants, as that’s where most of the marketing dollars are spent.

You’ll discover tons of different scents to choose from in these two categories, so you’ll have no problem finding soaps and deodorants that match your personal preferences and unique body chemistry.

Cost and Ingredient Concerns

So, what’s the catch? Why are more and more men interested in exploring alternatives to Dr. Squatch? There are two main things that may have brought you here today, besides the annoying ads that seem to follow you everywhere of course: cost and ingredients.

Yes, the ingredients used are 98-100% natural - but let’s talk fragrances. More specifically, fragrance oils. These are synthetic, and yet they’re often disguised in ingredient labels. They can produce adverse effects on the skin, especially if you have sensitive skin.

But for most people, the real deterrent of Dr. Squatch is cost. The products are pretty pricey, and it can be tough to justify making these a part of your daily grooming routine when more affordable Dr. Squatch alternatives exist.

So, let’s get into the best alternatives to Dr. Squatch below!

Introducing the Dr. Squatch Alternatives in 2024

You won’t have to look hard for alternatives to the products Dr. Squatch sells. As more and more men decide to stop settling for grooming products packed with harsh ingredients, there has been a surge in brands attempting to meet their needs.

But, having all these options at your disposal can get overwhelming. That’s why we’ve chiseled it down to just the top choice choices. Pick one of these brands and you can rest assured you’re giving your skin the gentle nourishment it needs.

For the best Dr. Squatch soap alternative and Dr. Squatch deodorant alternative, though, look no further than our lineup here at The Black Stuff.

The Black Stuff

We said earlier that our story is not too different from that of Dr. Squatch. It all started in Ireland with our founder handmaking soap in his kitchen. But once he started sharing these concoctions with friends and family and getting feedback, it was clear he was on to something special.

A lot has changed over the years - but we still uphold strict standards for sourcing ingredients, and we still do things the old-fashioned way. Our soaps are handcrafted in small batches and given ample time to cure so they last much longer than the competition.

Today, we’re proud to have grown our team to 10 amazing people who all share our passion and values. More than 50,000 happy customers later it’s clear we’ve created the best men’s soap!

We’ve applied the same approach to our aluminum-free deodorant for men. Rather than masking odours or preventing sweating, our gentle formulation kills odour-causing bacteria at the source. You can expect the same standards for ingredients across our whole catalogue.

Our soaps and deodorants are inspired by rugged Irish landscapes and traditions, offering scents that feel real and natural - not overly commercial or synthetic.

We steer clear of fragrance oils, relying instead on pure essential oils that are chosen not only for their scent but for their skin-nourishing properties. Whether you’re interested in a Dr. Squatch soap alternative or a Dr. Squatch deodorant alternative, the perfect scent is a click away:

We know that trying something new can be stressful, which is why your order is backed by our first scent guarantee. If you don’t love the smell of whatever products you buy, we’ll work with you to find a better one.

Dr. Bronners

Maybe your search for an alternative to Dr. Squatch soap or deodorant will take you to a different doctor - Dr. Bronner. This is one of the oldest brands in the world, tracing all the way back to 1858.

More than 165 years later the company is still known for producing high-quality natural soaps. While you won’t find deodorant in its catalogue, you will find plenty of different soap products - both liquid and bar forms.

Dr. Bronner uses only the purest organic and fair trade ingredients in its soaps, and all its other products for that matter - from virgin coconut oil to lip balm, toothpaste, haircare, and more.

The company is best known for its pure-castile liquid soap, which boasts up to 18 different uses. You can rest assured you’re getting a gentle solution for your skin, too, with organic peppermint essential oil, organic hemp seed oil, organic jojoba oil, and more.

This is also a great Dr. Squatch cheaper alternative with bar soaps starting at just $5 each and the liquid soaps only $17 for a massive jug.

Baxter of California

While Dr. Bronner doesn’t offer any sort of Dr. Squatch deodorant alternative, Baxter of California certainly does! This Los Angeles-based company has been around since 1965 and has honed its formulations over the decades, winning many awards along the way.

You can find a variety of products, from a gentle exfoliating body soap bar to vitamin cleansing bars, deodorants, and tons of other grooming products for the hair, face, and everywhere in between.

The brand’s aluminum-free deodorant uses a clear solid gel formula featuring tea tree and witch hazel extracts to tone and disinfect, killing odour-causing bacteria directly.

It’s free from parabens and great for sensitive skin, although we do see some concerning ingredients on the label - alcohol, synthetic fragrances, and tons of chemicals we can’t pronounce or even spell for that matter.

You’ll find much of the same in its soaps, along with artificial dyes like Orange 4 (CI 15510) and Red 4 (CI 14700). Do these add anything to the natural soap benefits? Nope. Are they linked to concerning health conditions? Yup.

But if you came here looking for Dr. Squatch alternatives that were more affordable, this brand really isn’t going to meet your needs at $20 per bar soap and $22 per deodorant.

Swanky Badger

This may not be the first brand that comes to mind when looking for alternatives to Dr. Squatch since the focus is primarily on providing high-quality gifts for men.

After all, that’s why the brand was born - the founder was struggling to come up with good groomsmen gifts, and decided to start offering his own solutions.

But today, Swanky Badger offers everything from cool leather foods to bar essentials, and of course, natural soap made from ingredients like olive oil, organic sustainable palm oil, coconut oil & shea butter.

The formulations vary from Northern Pine to Coral Reef, each with its own unique scent characteristics. The ingredients are far more in line with what you’d expect from a natural soap brand.

At just $8 per bar they’re a bit more affordable than an option like Baxter of California, too. While there aren’t any Dr. Squatch deodorant alternatives available at this time, you can at least start with soap!

360 Feel

360 Feel is unique in that you can’t find a ton of information on the brand, other than that they’re constantly recommended as a Dr. Squatch cheaper alternative - specifically for soap. The company doesn’t manufacture deodorant.

However, it does offer plenty of other cool grooming products and self-care solutions, ranging from bath bombs to shampoo bars, body butter, and more.

The soaps are a bit pricey at more than $15 but with more than 12,000 reviews on Amazon it’s clear people find them worth the cost. The formulations are plant-based and free from SLS, palm oil, parabens, and phthalate.

All products are proudly made by hand in the USA using the cold process, which we use ourselves here at The Black Stuff. It’s truly the best way to make soap that works and stands the test of time.

Every Man Jack

As the name suggests, Every Man Jack seeks to provide men from all walks of life with gentle, effective grooming products that do no harm.

But since the company was founded by outdoor enthusiasts it ups the ante, focusing on sustainability wherever possible. That includes recycled bottles and cruelty-free standards.

Similar to 360 feel the products are free from harsh chemicals like SLS, parabens, phthalate, polyethylene, and dyes. What you are getting includes activated charcoal, caffeine, green tea, coconut oil, and shea butter - all of which work in synergy to support healthier, happier skin.

Every Man Jack is one of the few alternatives to Dr. Squatch that offers all the grooming products you could need - from body bars to body wash, shampoo, deodorant, shaving essentials, and more.

We aren’t thrilled with the deodorant label - although it’s free of aluminum, it contains fragrance, alcohol, and other questionable additives that may irritate your skin.

Harry’s

Harry’s is another all-around grooming brand for men looking to cut out sketchy ingredients and give their skin (and hair) the gentle nourishment it deserves. From bar soaps to shaving supplies, deodorant, and more, you can round out your entire regimen at Harry’s.

While it started with shaving products, the company’s bar soap and deodorant each have their place as Dr. Squatch alternatives. You can choose from traditional deodorant to antiperspirant - though we recommend you steer clear of antiperspirant for obvious reasons (aluminum).

We respect the deodorant being made without BHT or D5 - but it still leaves much to be desired. Fragrance, alcohol, and other ingredients raise red flags - and these are found in soaps as well.

San Francisco Soap Company

San Francisco Soap Company interestingly enough makes its products in southeastern Massachusetts. Regardless, this USA-based brand claims to have its own unique formulations all of which are free from harmful ingredients.

In saying that, the brand isn’t quite as transparent as you may hope for when deciding whether or not to put something on your skin. Their bar soap is free from dye, and we know they use sustainable palm oil - but other than that, it’s a bit of a guessing game.

So ultimately you’ll have to take their word for it when they tell you that their soaps are crafted with care and free from harmful fillers and chemicals big label companies use. That being said, credit where it’s due - the 10oz bars offer pretty great bang for your buck!

Ursa Major

Ursa Major presents a fresh take on skincare for men and women looking to replace their deodorant and soap with something more gentle and natural.

The deodorant is one of the cleanest we’ve found in looking for alternatives to Dr. Squatch. It features aloe, hops, eucalyptus, and saccharomyces ferment - an important probiotic enzyme with potent odour-neutralising properties.

Meanwhile, the Mojo Soap bar combines exfoliation and cleansing in one gentle solution. Ingredients like Coconut, Honey, and Shea Butter help soothe and moisturise skin, so you’re not going to deal with that tight feeling associated with other soaps.

The only problem is you don’t get much in the way of variety with Ursa Major. They offer one soap bar and two deodorants. That’s it. They’re unisex too, not really tailored towards men.

Duke Cannon

Many consider this to be the best Dr. Squatch alternative for both soap and deodorant - and we can see why. It’s as close as you’ll find in terms of cost and ingredients.

The company plays on the appeal for the old days in America, which we can’t really relate to here in Ireland…but we can appreciate the values themselves: hard work, family, and community. These are all things we stand by ourselves.

We don’t love that the company even offers an antiperspirant, but that’s not what we’ll focus on. Instead, the Duke Cannon deo lineup seeks to keep guys smelling great even through stressful workdays.

The formulations feature skin-loving ingredients such as aloe and vitamin E, witch hazel - but they lose us at the fragrance side of things.

A blend of natural and synthetic oils doesn’t cut it in our books. We only use natural fragrance oils. As far as soaps are concerned we see a similar issue, with fragrance (parfum) on the label.

If you’re looking for Dr. Squatch cheaper alternatives that don’t expose you to any harmful ingredients, Duke Cannon might not meet your needs. Frankly, only one brand we covered today will: The Black Stuff.
